(APD), also referred to as (CAPD) central auditory processing disorder, is often confused with other disabilities. While individuals may have normal anatomy of their peripheral hearing, they do not process or interpret sounds correctly, particularly speech. It's believed that APD emerges from deviations in the normal functions of the central nervous system. Thus, APD can be extremely difficult to detect and diagnose.
